Using lasers as a narrow-band light source, both temporal and spatially controlled detection, measurement and processing is possible. The high intensity and excellent beam qualities allow for detection and investigation of even very small traces of a substance. In short: Molecules and atoms are much easier to locate for scientific investigation than they were a decade ago.
