Violet - Blue lasers

violet is the “magic” wavelength range since it allows for higher focusing and thus offering various advantages which have resulted in many little success stories:

DVD mastering – using the red wavelength the storage density was around 5Gb it has increased to 25Gb or more just by switching to a different wavelength.

Computer-to-plate – the wavelength 405nm allows exposing both silver-halide as well as polymer plate whereas in former times, two different lasers had to be used.

Moving into the violet area we can see that 375nm diodes can – if combined with superior electronics and optics even replace deep-UV lasers, thus offering enormous cost savings.

Despite their advantages with regard to beam quality, modules based on blue laser diodes replace blue Argon-Ion lasers due to the fact that they are much smaller in size and consume only a fraction of power an Argon-Ion needs for operation. Also over life-time, laser diode modules have proven to be maintenance-free.

KOHERAS GmbH offers a range of lasers in the violet and blue range which are being used in computer-to-plate, DVD mastering, digital printing, confocal microscopy – to name but a few.
